Leys News is the main source of local information for Blackbird Leys residents. Streetwork carried out by the Leys Community Learning Project showed Leys News as the most important source of information for local residents: achieving 36% of top scores and beating the Oxford Mail into second place.
There is a lot of goodwill in the community towards the paper, and it is a real asset to the residents providing news and information about local events and issues, training and learning opportunities and advice on pertinent issues for local people. Leys News also reinforces the idea of both the old and new sections of the estate being a single community, promoting community events and encouraging people to become involved in community activities. Leys News is also very useful for local organisations to disseminate information, publicise learning opportunities and give advice to residents on issues important to them.
