Leys News offers anyone who is interested in joining our team of volunteers, the chance to take part in FREE Community Journalism Training sessions. Held at our offices in Kingfisher Green, the training covers all aspects of community journalism and newspaper production, as well as an insight into mainstream media.
Modules covered included how to spot a good story or feature idea, interviewing techniques, researching news stories and writing for newspapers.
Several of the students from the previous course have already contributed stories; features and photographs to Leys News and their work can be seen in the latest issue. One student has also been approached by an organisation that who would like her to produce their monthly newsletter.
The feedback from the course was very positive with all those attending agreeing that as well as providing a valuable insight into journalism, they had improved their listening and writing skills and had a clear understanding of how community journalism works. Leys News now has a core team of several community journalists and photographers who will continue to receive on going support and training and are all very involved with planning the content of the paper each month.
